Types of Wells


There are six (6) basic well types:

Wildcat Well - a well drilled far from known production in a setting which has no conventional prospectivity.

Exploratory Well - a well drilled outside the boundaries of a known reservoir.

Development Well - a well drilled within the boundaries of a known producing reservoir to increase the production in the field.

Offset Well - a type of development well that is drilled near a well that is producing or had previously been productive.

Injection Well - a well that is used to inject water or gas back into the formation in order to maintain pressure, or to bring a field back under pressure.

Disposal Well - a well drilled into a formation that is safe to receive and store water produced from other wells.
